Aim of Project:

To develop a set of high quality guidelines for the management of acute conditions in paediatrics.

About the Project:

The development of high quality guidelines for the management of acute conditions in paediatrics is a very time consuming exercise. Collaboration with the West Mercia Guidelines Group has provided essential support for this exercise in terms of expertise, and a supporting infrastructure including a clinical effectiveness librarian (for finding the published evidence base) and a pharmacist.

A program of guideline development has been initiated and work has commenced on a range of guidelines shown on the guidelines page of the website. When completed each guideline will appear on the website with accompanying evidence pages

Quality control is essential and for this reason the publication has been held back until the quality can be assured. When a significant proportion of guidelines have been completed then copies together with supportive evidence will be made available to all participating Trusts in formats that will allow local editing and publication on paper and on the internet.

A guidelines workshop was held to publicise the process and encourage participation in guideline development. All potential authors are advised to look at the guideline writers ABC.
