To this end, PiP works with children’s services organisations and professionals and with children, young people and their families to:
- Develop high quality clinical guidelines and pathways of care
- Facilitate the development of clinical networks
- Work with and inform commissioners on the improvement of services
- Provide educational fora and undertake training & research
- Promote and share good practice
Purpose and Objectives
PiP was initiated in 1997 in response to a shared sense of concern about current and future provision of children's services, and a willingness to explore whether a collaborative approach to service planning and provision might help to address some of the problems.
The purpose of the partnership is to improve the quality and accessibility of services for children across the areas served by the participating providers.
History
A first step was to pool information about the state of the full range of services provided within the partnership area. This initial review identified a short list of services, which were agreed as shared priorities for improvement.
After a year of informal working to explore where the benefits of a collaborative approach might best be realised for each of these services, a conference was held to appraise Trust Chief Executives of progress, and to set out the case for continued collaboration. PiP is now formally constituted with a business plan and a working group for each project identified in the plan.
PiP has a budget raised by subscription, paid by member Trusts. Although only subscribing Trusts have a place on the Steering Group, PiPs working groups and its end of year conferences are open to clinicians and managers from all Trusts within the geographical area.
Now in its 11th year PiP has accumulated a great amount of knowledge and expertise which can be used to identlfy current service problems. We are working closely with commissioners in order to achieve the NSF standards for children.
The support from representitives of member Trusts has enabled PiP to accomplish its hard work and increase the benefits to children.
